How to Fix Can’t Take Damage on Your Minecraft Server

Do you own a Minecraft server or you’re playing with your friends?

In some cases, you might not be able to take damage.

I’ve owned a couple of Minecraft servers before and the same issue happened to me.

Even though I wasn’t in creative mode, I couldn’t take any damage.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix can’t take damage (e.g., fall, mop, fire damage) in Minecraft or your server.

Why can’t you take damage on your Minecraft server?

You can’t take damage on your Minecraft server because of three main reasons.

Firstly, you might be in creative mode—this prevents you from getting damaged.

Secondly, you might be in god mode—this also prevents you from getting damaged.

Lastly, there might be an issue with a plugin that you’ve installed in your server.

How to fix can’t take damage on your Minecraft server

To fix can’t take damage on your Minecraft server, you need to disable creative mode by doing “/gamemode survival”.

You also need to disable god mode by doing “/god” or “/ungod” (this is the most common reason why you’re not getting damaged).

Here are 3 fixes:

  • Set survival mode: Do /gamemode survival to set game mode survival.
  • Ungod yourself: Do /god or /ungod to allow yourself to take damage.
  • Remove plugin(s): Delete the plugin that’s responsible for the issue.

If there’s an issue with a plugin, you need to find out the culprit that’s responsible for it.

For instance, in my server, a plugin called “GodItems” was causing my player to be invicible after using an item’s ability.

To fix this, I had to delete my player’s data via World > playerdata.

But before you delete plugins or player data, make sure to back up your server first!
