WhatsApp allows you to add music to status updates with photos or videos in some countries.
To do so, select Updates > Add to my status > Photo/Video > Music icon > Music.
You can add up to 15 seconds of music to an image update and 60 seconds to video updates.
Your status is end-to-end encrypted, so the app can’t see what you share, including the songs you add.

How to Fix Music Option Not Showing on WhatsApp Status
To fix the music option not showing on WhatsApp Status, you must update WhatsApp to the latest version or try joining WhatsApp Beta.
Otherwise, you must wait until the feature is rolled out to you as it’s not available in all countries yet (e.g., Brazil) or contact WhatsApp Messenger support for help.
Fix 1: Update WhatsApp to the latest version
- Open the App Store or Google Play Store.
- Search for “WhatsApp” and open it.
- Select “Update” to update the app to the latest version.
- Open WhatsApp, select “Updates”, and select “Add to my status”.
- Add a photo/video to your status and check if you have the music option!
Fix 2: Join WhatsApp Beta
For iOS:
- Install TestFlight on the App Store.
- Open TestFlight and agree to the terms and conditions.
- Go to https://testflight.apple.com/join/krUFQpyJ and open in TestFlight.
- Select “Accept” to join WhatsApp Beta.
- Select “Install” to install WhatsApp Beta.
- Open WhatsApp Beta, select “Updates”, and select “Add to my status”.
- Add a photo/video to your status and check if you have the music option!
For Android:
- Go to https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.whatsapp.
- Sign in to your Google account.
- Select “Become a tester”.
- Open the Google Play Store and search for “WhatsApp”.
- Wait for a few minutes (if you don’t see an “Update” button).
- Tap on the “Update” button.
- Open WhatsApp, select “Updates”, and select “Add to my status”.
- Add a photo/video to your status and check if you have the music option!
Fix 3: Wait until the music option is rolled out to you
- According to WhatsApp, Music on Status is not available in all countries, including Brazil.
- WhatsApp is working hard to make sure it’s available to everyone as soon as possible.
- If you don’t have the music option, you must wait until the feature is rolled out to you.
Fix 4: Contact WhatsApp support
- Go to https://www.whatsapp.com/contact/?subject=messenger.
- Provide your phone number, email address, and state how you use WhatsApp.
- Describe that you don’t have the Music on Status option and ask how to get it.
- Submit the form and wait for WhatsApp’s response.
