There are 4 settings—none, critical gameplay, critical gameplay + conversations, and everything.

“Critical gameplay” will display subtitles for important things like killstreaks and ultimates.

“Everything” will display subtitles for any conversation.

Turning on subtitles is highly recommended to tell if an ultimate is used by an ally/enemy.

To change subtitles in Overwatch 2, you need to go to your accessibility settings.

Once you’re there, select the “Subtitles” drop-down box and select your desired subtitle.

The “Critical Gameplay” option is highly recommended.

Here’s how to do this:

  1. Press “Esc” on your keyboard”.
  2. Select “Options” in the menu.
  3. Select “Accessibility”.
  4. Click on the “Subtitles” drop-down box.
  5. Select your desired subtitle (e.g. Critical Gameplay).

Make sure to apply your changes or it will not be saved.
