How to Fix “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed” on Instagram

Are you getting a “Sorry, this page isn’t available” error on Instagram?

Here’s the second part of the error, “The link you followed may be broken”.

Followed by, “Or the page may have been removed. Go back to Instagram”.

This happens when you click on an Instagram link from another website or app.

For example, it can happen when you tap on the Instagram icon on someone’s profile on TikTok.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed” on Instagram (Chrome, Safari, or website).

Why is the link I followed broken on Instagram?

The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed

The link you followed may be broken on Instagram because you’re not logged in to Instagram.

If you’re not logged in to Instagram, the page of any Instagram link that you visit will not be available.

This is usually due to a bug/glitch on Instagram’s end because it’s not mandatory for you to be logged in to see other profiles.

If it’s not caused by a bug/glitch, it means that the Instagram profile you’re visiting is banned or does not exist.

This can happen if the link contains an invalid username that’s either misspelled or changed.

If you’re already logged in to Instagram but the page is not available, it can mean that the person blocked you.

To verify this, you can try logging into another Instagram account and visiting the person’s Instagram profile.

That said, most people get the “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed” error on Instagram when they try to visit an Instagram link from another website or app.

For example, you might get the error message when you tap on the Instagram icon on someone’s TikTok profile.

Or, you might get it when you tap on someone’s Instagram link on their Twitter bio.

TD;LR: The link you followed is broken either because you’re not logged in to Instagram, a banned account, invalid username (misspelled/changed), or you’re blocked.

How to fix “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed” on Instagram

To fix “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed” on Instagram, you need to first exit incognito mode by opening a new tab or window.

Next, go to instagram.com and log in to your Instagram account.

Now, when you visit, click, or tap on any Instagram link, you’ll be able to see the page (as long as you’re logged in).

Here are 3 steps to fix the error message (expand the screenshots above):

  1. Exit incognito or private mode on your browser.
  2. Go to instagram.com and log in to your Instagram account.
  3. Now, the page for any Instagram link that you visit will be available.

Editor’s note: The page for any Instagram link will be available as long as you’re logged in to Instagram (whether you’re on mobile or PC).

Hence, you cannot be in incognito or private mode as it’ll automatically log you out of Instagram when you leave the tab.

Based on my testing, the “The link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed” error happens when you visit someone’s Instagram profile when you’re not logged in to Instagram.

For example, I tapped on the Instagram icon on someone’s TikTok bio but the page was not available.

I also tried visiting someone’s Instagram link from their Twitter bio but I also got the same error message.

Apparently, the error is a bug/glitch on Instagram’s end because it’s previously not mandatory for users to be logged in to see other Instagram profiles.

For now, you can bypass the error message by staying logged in—this will allow you to visit any Instagram link on a browser like Chrome or Safari.
