How to Add USDT to MetaMask

To add USDT (Tether) to MetaMask, you need to copy its address and import it as a custom token.

After you’ve imported it as a custom token, you’ll be able to send and receive USDT.

Tether is hosted on the Ethereum blockchain, so you need to make sure that the “Ethereum Mainnet” network is selected.

By default, the “Ethereum Mainnet” network is selected.

Hence, you don’t need to add a new network.

Tether is a stablecoin, which means that it’s always worth $1.00 (1-to-1 matching fiat currency).

Its aim is to stabilize cryptocurrency valuations.

MetaMask is a safe way to store your USDT as compared to a cryptocurrency exchange because you own your private keys.

Here’s how to add USDT (Tether) to MetaMask:

  1. Copy the USDT contract address
  2. Log in to your MetaMask wallet
  3. Click on “import tokens”
  4. Paste the USDT contact address
  5. Send or receive USDT

1. Copy the USDT contract address

USDT address

Before you can add USDT (Tether) to MetaMask, you need to copy its address.

This is because USDT is not automatically added on MetaMask.

Hence, you need to import it as a custom token.

Firstly, go to CoinMarketCap.com and search for “USDT”.

Under “Contracts”, click on the duplicate icon to copy the USDT address.

You can find the USDT token on CoinMarketCap here: https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/tether/.

2. Log in to your MetaMask wallet

After you’ve copied the USDT contract address, you can now import it to MetaMask.

If you don’t have MetaMask, you need to install it on Chrome and create a new wallet.

The wallet creation process involves choosing a password and storing a recovery phrase.

If you already have a MetaMask wallet, you can either enter your password or import it using your secret recovery phrase.

To log in to your MetaMask wallet, click on the MetaMask extension, enter your password, and click on “Unlock”.

3. Click on “import tokens”

After you’ve unlocked your MetaMask wallet, you’ll need to import USDT.

Firstly, you need to make sure that the “Ethereum Mainnet” network is selected.

This is because USDT is hosted on the Ethereum blockchain.

By default, the “Ethereum Mainnet” network will be selected.

If it’s not, click on the network dropdown box and select it.

Next, scroll down and click on “import tokens” to start importing USDT as a custom token.

4. Paste the USDT contact address

After you’ve clicked on “import tokens”, you’ll land on the “Search” tab.

On the “Search” tab, you’ll be able to search for “USDT” and add it as a custom token.

However, it’s better to add it as a custom token.

Firstly, click on “Custom Token” to start adding a custom token.

Now, you’ll see 3 fields—”Token Contract Address”, “Token Symbol”, and “Token Decimal”.

All you have to do is to paste the USDT address into the “Token Contract Address” field.

Once you’ve pasted the USDT address, the rest of the fields will be auto-populated.

Lastly, click on “Add Custom Token” to add USDT to your MetaMask wallet.

5. Send or receive USDT

To receive USDT, copy your wallet address by clicking on the duplicate icon under “Account 1” and share it with the sender.

Conclusion

An alternative way to add USDT to MetaMask is to go to the USDT token page on CoinMarketCap.

Once you’re there, click on the MetaMask icon under “Contracts”.

After you’ve clicked on the MetaMask icon, you’ll receive a MetaMask notification.

Click on “Add Token” to add USDT to your MetaMask wallet.

Recently, MetaMask has also improved its token detection.

Hence, you can also add USDT by searching for it on the “Search” tab.

You can do so by navigating to your MetaMask wallet > import tokens > search for “USDT” > Next > Import Tokens.

Instead of holding your USDT in your MetaMask wallet, you can hold it in an interest account like BlockFi.

BlockFi has a USDT interest rate of 9.25%.

You can sign up for BlockFi here: https://blockfi.com/?ref=ebaebea5 and deposit your USDT there.
