The engine error in Apex Legends is a crash that is associated with using a Ring Console while on DirectX12 and using the Low Model Detail setting.

According to Respawn Entertainment, they recommend increasing the Low Model Detail setting or switching back to DX11.

If you’re already using DX11, you need to switch to DX12 instead.

The company also said that they are aware of the issue and are working on a fix.

How to fix Apex Legends engine error

To fix the Apex Legends engine error, you can try to switch to DX12.

You can also try to increase the Model Detail setting or verify the game files.

Fix 1: Switch to DX12

EA App:

  1. From “My Collection”, click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the Apex Legends tile and select “View Properties”.
  2. Add “-eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json” in the text box under “Advanced Launch Options”.
  3. Click “Save” and launch the game.

Origin:

  1. From “My Game Library”, right-click Apex Legends > Game Properties > Advanced Launch Options.
  2. Add “-eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json” to Command line arguments.
  3. Click “Save” and launch the game.

Steam:

  1. From your library, right-click Apex Legends, and select Properties.
  2. Add “-eac_launcher_settings SettingsDX12.json” to “Launch Options”.
  3. Close the properties window and launch the game.

Note: If you’re already using DX12, try using DX11 by removing the related command line above.

Fix 2: Increase the Model Detail setting

  1. Launch Apex Legends.
  2. Open Settings > Video > Model Detail.
  3. Increase the “Model Detail” setting.
  4. Save your changes and try playing a ranked game.

Fix 3: Verify the integrity of the game files

  • Steam: Open Steam > Library > Apex Legends > Right-click > Properties > Local Files > Verify integrity of game files.
  • Origin: Open Origin > Library > Apex Legends > Right-click > Repair.
  • EA: Open EA > My Collection > Apex Legends > Three Dots > Repair.
