Ashton Togerson, aged 16, had an accident and crashed in the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals on Wednesday.
According to his website, Togerson has raced for about 10 years.
The Lucas Oil Chilli Bowl Nationals is a midget car race that’s nicknamed the “Super Bowl of midget racing”.
In the crash, Ashton’s car flipped over several times before medical personnel arrived.
Ashton was taken to the hospital and he’s awake and alert.
Torgerson Racing gave an update on Togerson while he was in the hospital.
According to the company’s tweet, his hands and feet have passed the tests.
“Passed neck and back tests, waiting on CT scan. The first thing he asked me was what place he was in”.
Followed by, “You have no idea how much your support means to Ashton and the family”.
Drivers and officials decided to continue the race and Rico Abreu won first place.
“These are tough moments for race car drivers. I didn’t personally witness what happened, but you could feel anxiety and fear”, said Rico.
“We’re race car drivers, and we have to strap in these things once everything cools off”.
“Hats off to the Chili Bowl for their safety response”.
Petersen Media said Torgerson was awake as he reached the hospital”.
Togerson’s company shared an update that Togerson had some blood in his brain.
The doctors are going to keep and eye on that and are surprised that Togerson is doing so well.
They also thanked @Rico_Abreu, the winner of the race for checking on him.
