How to Get The “Bot” Tag on Discord (8 Easy Steps)

Inviting a bot on Discord is an uncomplicated process.

However, if you want to get the “Bot” tag on Discord, there are additional steps that you need to take.

If you’re looking to prank the members in your Discord server, getting the “Bot” tag on Discord is perfect.

By getting the tag beside your username, it’ll seem like the bot is talking—but in reality, you’re the one controlling it.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to get the “Bot” tag on Discord, how to log in to it, and control it to send messages.

By the end of the guide, you will be able to send messages using the bot and troll your friends.

How to Get The “Bot” Tag on Discord

To get the “Bot” tag on Discord, you first need to add a bot via the Discord Developer Portal, invite it to your server, then log in to it via the Discord bot client.

After you’ve logged in to the bot via the Discord bot client, you will be able to control the bot and chat like a normal user.

In this process, you don’t need to write a single line of code.

However, you need to use a couple of third-party applications in order to create, invite, and control the bot.

Hence, you need to use a computer for this as you need to make a download.

Below is a step-by-step guide on how you can get the “Bot” tag on Discord.

  1. Go to the Discord Developer Portal & create a new application
  2. Navigate to the “bot” tab and add a bot
  3. Copy the client ID from “General Information”
  4. Go to “Invite Bot” and replace the client ID in the URL with yours
  5. Add the bot to your server
  6. Go to the Discord Developer Portal & copy the bot’s token
  7. Download the Discord Bot Client & paste your bot’s token
  8. Chat as a bot!

Step #1: Go to the Discord Developer Portal & create a new application

Create an application on Discord

Discord Developer Portal > Applications > New Application > Create.

Firstly, head on over to the Discord Developer Portal to create a new application.

You can search for “Discord Developer Portal” on Google and click on the first link, or use the link above.

Once you’re in the portal, you’ll land on an introduction page.

On the left navigation menu, click on “Applications”.

In the applications section, you’ll see all of the applications that you’ve created in the past.

Click on the “New Application” button to create a new application.

After you clicked on the “New Application” button, you have to name your application and set a profile picture for it.

The name of the application should be the name of your bot.

When you log in to the bot and chat, the name of the bot will be shown.

Next, click on “Create” to create the application.

After you’ve created the application, you’ll land on the general information page where the information of your application is shown.

You can change the profile picture of your application by clicking on its profile picture (this will be the profile picture of your bot as well).

Click on “Save Changes” once you’re done changing its profile picture.

Step #2: Navigate to the “bot” tab and add a bot

How to add a bot on Discord

Discord Developer Portal > Bot tab > Add Bot.

On the left navigation menu, click on the “Bot” tab.

Then click on the “Add Bot” button and click on “Yes, do it!”.

Adding a bot will add it to your existing application (the one you’ve created in the previous step).

A bot page will then be created.

You’ll see a token there which is a password to your bot, so you’ll have to keep it as a secret.

Congrats, you’ve successfully created a bot.

Next, you’ll have to invite the bot to your Discord server.

Step #3: Copy the client ID from “General Information”

Copy client ID for Discord application

Discord Developer Portal > General Information > Client ID > Copy.

Firstly, to invite the bot to your Discord server, you have to copy your application’s client ID.

Click on “General Information” on the left navigation menu.

Under “CLIENT ID”, click on “Copy” to copy the client ID to your clipboard.

This ID is used to invite the bot that you’ve just created to your Discord server.

The next step is to invite the bot to your Discord server via the “Invite Bot” website.

Step #4: Go to “Invite Bot” and replace the client ID in the URL with yours

How to invite a bot on Discord

Search for “Invite Bot Discord” on Google > replace the client ID in the URL with yours.

Head on over to the Invite Bot website to create a new application.

To begin with, search for “Invite Bot Discord” on Google.

Click on the link that says “Invite Bot – Discord” with the breadcrumb, “discordapp.com › oauth2 › authorize › scope=bot”.

After you click on the link, there’ll be a random bot requesting authorization.

However, you don’t want to invite that bot.

Instead, you want to invite the bot that you’ve just created to your Discord server.

In order to do that, you need to replace the client ID in the URL with your application’s client ID.

Replace the client ID after the equal sign “?client_id=” with the one that you’ve copied in the previous step.

After you’ve replaced the client ID with your bot’s ID, hit enter and proceed to the next step.

Step #5: Add the bot to your server

How to add a bot to Discord

Add the bot to your server > Authorize > complete the CAPTCHA.

After you’ve replaced the client ID in the previous step with your bot’s ID, you’ll see that your bot is being invited.

Under “ADD TO SERVER”, choose the Discord server that you want to invite the bot to and click on “Authorize”.

Complete the “I’m not a robot” CAPTCHA to prove that you’re not a bot.

Once you’ve authorized the bot, head on over to your Discord server.

On your server’s chat, you should be able to see that the bot has entered the server (e.g. A wild Bot appeared).

There will also be a “Bot” tag beside its name.

If the bot doesn’t show up, navigate to your server’s settings, click on “Members”, and search for your bot’s name.

If you still can’t find the bot on your server, it means that you do not have the “Manage Server” permission.

Navigate to your server’s settings, click on “Roles”, give yourself administrator access as well as the “Managed Server” permission.

Congrats, you’ve successfully invited the bot to your server!

In the next steps, you’ll learn how to log in to the bot and chat as a normal user.

Step #6: Go to the Discord Developer Portal & copy the bot’s token

Discord bot token

Discord Developer Portal > Bot tab > Token > Copy.

Go to the back to Discord Developer portal (in the first step).

On the left navigation menu, click on the “Bot” tab.

Under “Build-A-Bot”, you’ll see a token where you can copy.

Click on “Copy” to copy the bot’s token to your clipboard.

Make sure to treat your token like a password and not reveal it to anyone.

In the next step, you’ll learn how to log in to your bot and chat like a normal user.

Step #7: Download the Discord Bot Client & paste your bot’s token

Discord bot client login

Go to the Discord Bot Client on Github (by Flam3rboy) > paste your bot’s token > login.

The final step is to download the Discord Bot Client and paste the token (that you’ve copied in the previous step) to log in to the bot.

Head on over to the Discord Bot Client website on Github (released by Flam3rboy).

Click on the “Installer for Windows” to install the client on your computer (if your operating system is Windows).

After you’ve installed it, open the client.

Inside the client, you’ll see a login page with a token field.

Paste the token that you’ve copied in the previous step in the field.

After logging in with the token, it’ll take a while for the client to load.

Once the client has loaded, the bot account will be connected to your Discord server and the app will open.

Step #8: Chat as a bot!

How to Get The "Bot" Tag on Discord

Congrats, you’ve successfully logged into a bot account in your server!

Now, you can prank the members in your server by chatting as a bot, with the verified “Bot” tag.

On the left navigation menu, you’ll see that you’re in your Discord server—you’re literally in your server as a bot account.

Normally, you’ll have to manually control your bot to make it say things in your chat.

Now, you are the bot account and you can use it to chat on your server.

You can also add attachments, GIFs, and emojis like a normal user.

Having a bot account also means that you have a free copy of Discord Nitro.

This will give you access to animated emojis and emojis from other servers.

Conclusion

Now that you’ve completed all the steps, you can log in to a bot account at any time and prank your friends on your Discord server.

It’ll seem as though a verified bot is always stalking their every move.

Additionally, you’ll see that the bot has a ton of badges in its profile (e.g. Discord Staff Partner, Hype Squad).

It’s like hacking into a bot account and stealing all of its features and perks.
