You can now edit messages, pin chats to the top of your inbox, themes, and more.

Themes allow you to personalize your chats with backgrounds like Love, Chill, and Wish.

You can also add special effects to Instagram messages or reactions.

Special effects include hearts, rings/circles, fire, and a gift box.

Here’s how to add special effects to Instagram messages

  1. Open Instagram and tap on the direct message icon.
  2. Open the chat and type a message (e.g. hi).
  3. Tap on the search icon (before sending the message).
  4. Select the “Gift” effect to send the message as a gift!
