Instagram mentions allow you to tag your story with someone else and they can repost it.
When you mention someone on a story, the person will receive a notification in their direct message.
The person can then choose to post that story as a sticker, and they can scale, rotate, or position it.
The original poster’s username will show up and will be tappable, so others can explore your friend’s profile.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix the Add Mentions option not showing or not working on Instagram.
Why is the Add Mentions option not showing on Instagram?
The Add Mentions option is not showing on Instagram because Instagram changed its location.
Previously, the option was available when you tapped on the three dots on your Instagram story after you’ve posted it.
Currently, the option is available directly at the bottom of your Instagram story.
To get it, you must update Instagram to the latest version on the App Store or Google Play Store.
How to fix Add Mentions option not showing on Instagram

Instead of selecting the three dots, the Mention option has shifted directly at the bottom of your Instagram story.
To use it, you must view your story, tap on the Mention (@) option at the bottom, and select who you want to mention.
Here’s how to fix Add Mentions option not showing on Instagram:
- Post a story on Instagram.
- Tap on your profile picture to view your own story.
- Select “Mention” at the bottom of your story.
- Select people to mention in your story and select “Add” to add them!
Do note that the Mentions option will only show up after you’ve posted an Instagram story.
If you want to mention people before posting your story, you must add a text with an “@” sign followed by the person’s username (e.g. @followchainorg) to your story first.
