Valorant is a 5v5 tactical shooter that provides players with a platform to express their individual styles and skills.
With its focus on attack and defense rounds, the game demands rapid decision-making and shooting abilities.
Players can participate in different game modes, including Competitive, Unranked, Deathmatch, and Spike Rush.
As of July, many players are unable to launch the game because of a Virtualization-based security (VBS) update.
The update prevents systems that did not enable UEFI and TPM 2.0 from launching Valorant.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to fix “This build of Vanguard requires TPM 2.0 and secure boot” in Valorant.
Why does Vanguard require TPM 2.0?
TPM 2.0 is one of the requirements for running Valorant on your machine.
The error occurs because you didn’t change your BIOS mode to UEFI and enable TPM 2.0.
UEFI provides enhanced security features while TPM 2.0 provides security for cryptographic operations.
If your system does not support those features, you need to disable virtualization-based security (VBS) instead.
How to Fix “This build of Vanguard requires TPM 2.0” in Valorant
To fix the “This build of Vanguard requires TPM 2.0” error in Valorant, you need to enable UEFI and TPM 2.0.
If your system does not support those features, you need to disable virtualization-based security (VBS) instead.
Fix 1: Enable UEFI and TPM 2.0
- Restart your PC and press the BIOS key (e.g. F2 or DEL).
- Boot > Boot Mode > UEFI.
- Security > Set Supervisor Password > Enter New Password (e.g. 123).
- Security > Change TPM (TCM) State > Enabled.
- Exit > Exit Saving Changes > Yes.
Note #1: The BIOS key is different for every system—you can check the correct key by searching for “BIOS key for x” on Google (e.g. BIOS key for Acer laptop).
Note #2: Check if your system supports UEFI by searching for “msinfo32” using Windows Search, opening it, and checking if the BIOS Mode is UEFI.
Note #3: Check if your system supports TPM 2.0 by searching for “tpm.msc” using Windows Search, opening it, and checking if the status is “The TPM is ready for use”.
Note #4: If the BIOS Mode is not UEFI and your system does not support TPM 2.0, you need to use the next method instead.
Fix 2: Disable VBS
- Use Windows Search and search for “CMD”.
- Right-click the command prompt and select “Run as administrator”.
- Type “bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off” and press enter.
- Restart your computer, use Windows Search, and search for “Core Isolation”.
- Turn off “Memory Integrity” and restart your computer.
Note: You can check if VBS is disabled by searching for “msinfo32” using Windows Search, opening it, and finding “Virtualization-based security”.
Fix 3: Enable Secure Boot
- Restart your PC and press the BIOS key (e.g. F2 or DEL).
- For Alienware, Inspiron, and Vostro, go to Secure Boot > change Secure Boot to Enabled > press F10 to save and exit.
- For OptiPlex, Precision, Wyse, and XPS, go to Secure Boot > Secure Boot Enable > Check Secure Boot Enable > Apply > Exit > Save.
Note: Check if Secure Boot is enabled by searching for “msinfo32” using Windows Search, opening it, and checking if “Secure Boot State” is “On”.
