How to Remove Meta AI on WhatsApp

Meta AI is a new feature on WhatsApp that acts as a virtual assistant.

It also has compatibility on Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses and Meta Quest 3.

The AI uses a custom model that integrates technology from Llama 2 and LLM.

It provides real-time information from Bing search and offers image generation tools.

For instance, if you’re in a hiking group chat, Meta AI can suggest hiking trails.

In this guide, you’ll learn how to disable, turn off, or remove Meta AI on WhatsApp from your search bar on Android.

How to Remove Meta AI on WhatsApp

Here’s how to remove Meta AI on WhatsApp (for Android devices only):

  1. Delete the WhatsApp app from your device.
  2. Go to https://whatsapp-messenger.en.uptodown.com/android.
  3. Select “Older versions”, scroll down, and select “See more”.
  4. Select a version of WhatsApp that is older than September 27, 2023 (e.g. September 21, 2023, 2.23.20.4).
  5. Tap on “Download” followed by “Download anyway”.
  6. Open the file that you’ve downloaded and tap on “Install”.
  7. Open WhatsApp and log in to your account.
  8. Meta AI has successfully been removed!

Note #1: If you’re prompted to update the app, choose not to—otherwise, Meta AI will be added to WhatsApp.

Note #2: If you’re stuck at step #5, you need to allow Chrome to install unknown apps > Settings > Security and privacy > More security and privacy > Installation sources > Chrome > Allow.

Editor’s note: I’ve personally tried and tested this method myself and it works for my Android device—unfortunately, there is no fix for iOS devices yet.
