How to Fix “Session Expired” on Facebook

You can check if the app is down by visiting https://metastatus.com/.

If there are service disruptions, it means that Facebook is down.

If Facebook is down, you need to wait for the servers to be back up.

How to fix “Session Expired” on Facebook

To fix “Session Expired” on Facebook, you can try clearing the app’s cache or force exiting and reopening it.

You can also try installing an older version of Facebook, updating it, or uninstalling and reinstalling it.

Fix 1: Clear Facebook’s cache

  • For Android: Force exit Facebook > open the Settings app > Apps > Facebook > Storage > Clear Cache > Clear Data > re-open Facebook.
  • For iOS: Open the Settings app > General > iPhone Storage > Facebook > Offload app > Reinstall app.

Fix 2: Force exit and reopen Facebook

  • For Android: Open the Settings app > select Apps or Apps & notifications > select Facebook > Select Force Stop or Force Close > OK.
  • For iOS: Swipe up from the bottom of your screen > release in the middle of your screen > scroll to the Facebook card > swipe up to force exit it > reopen Facebook.

Fix 3: Install an older version of Facebook

  1. Delete the Facebook app.
  2. Go to https://facebook.en.uptodown.com/android.
  3. Select “Older versions”.
  4. Install an older version of Facebook.
  5. Open the app and log in to your Facebook account.

Note: This method only works for Android devices.

Fix 4: Update Facebook to the latest version

  • For Android: Open the Google Play Store > search for “Facebook” > open it > update.
  • For iOS: Open the App Store > search for “Facebook” > open it > update.

Fix 5: Wait for a few hours

Check if Facebook is down by visiting https://metastatus.com/.

Specifically, check the “Facebook Login” status under “Developer Platform”.

If it’s down, you need to wait for a few hours for the servers to be back up.

Facebook outages happened multiple times in the past few years.

Hence, it’s not uncommon that the app is down right now.
